It’s a big Saturday night for West Wales concert-goers.
They have to make a choice between the Royal British Legion Charity Gala Concert at The Lyric in Carmarthen and a 'Voices for Hospices' charity concert in Llandeilo, featuring Wynne Evans.
The Tywi Valley concert, is in aid of Ty Cymorth, the Carmarthen-based hospice.
The concert starts at 7m on Saturday, October 21, at the new Ysgol Bro Dinefwr in Llandeilo.
Carmarthen-born tenor and radio and TV personalityWynne Evans is a patron of Ty Cymorth hospice.
The concert is being billed as 'Voices for Hospices' and will also celebrate the Rotary International Foundation centenary and 100 years of Rotary International in Wales.
Rotary clubs invited to be involved include Carmarthen, Carmarthen Tywi, Llandeilo, Llandovery, Lampeter, Aberwstwyth and Aberaeron.
The choral line-up includes Côr Meibion Cwmann a’r Cylch, Côr Meibion Dinefwr, Côr Meibion Dyffryn Tywi, Côr Meibion Llandybie, Côr Meibion Llanymddyfri.
The President for the event will be West Wales businessman Brian Jones MBE, of Castell Howell Foods, who is a Rotary Paul Harris Fellow and trustee of Ty Cymorth.
The concert organiser is Kevin Sivyer, President of Lampeter Rotary Club.
He said: “We are assured of a splendid evening of choral singing featuring many of our finest local male voice choirs. The facilities at the new Llandeilo school are excellent and we are looking forward to a full house on the evening.”

For the Royal British Legion Charity Gala Concert on Saturday (October 21), the headline acts are the famous Three Welsh Tenors – Rhys Meirion, Aled Hall and Aled Wyn Davies - and soprano Gwawr Edwards.
Rarely do the Three Welsh Tenors get the opportunity to perform together as each is a professional tenor with a demanding solo career in his own right
Also appearing will be one of Wales’s famous male voice choirs, the mighty Morriston RFC Male Voice Choir, the bagpipes of the City and County of Swansea Pipe Band and the Corps of Drums of the 215 RAF Squadron.
The gala concert has now become one of the big annual events in West Wales and helps to launch the poppy appeal for the Royal British Legion in West Wales.
Later this month, Côr Meibion Dinefwr Male Voice Choir will be joined by Côr Meibion Llandybie for their annual concert on Saturday, October 28, at Capel Newydd, Llandeilo.
The concert starts at 7.30pm, with the choirs under the baton of John Williams and with Sara Morgan as the accompanist and Lynn Griffiths as the chairman for the evening.
Soloists will be Jessica Robinson and Owain Rowlands.
The evening will feature special charity cheque presentations to Macmillan Nurses and the cancer charity Tenovus.
Soprano Jessica Robinson graduated from the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama in Cardiff with a First Class Honours Degree. Having won many awards, she was chosen to participate in several master classes and also as part of an Octet who performed for HRH the Prince of Wales.
Her singing career started as a competitor in local eisteddfodau in Pembrokeshire. She gained further success in the Chevron Music Award and was chosen as the Music Student of the Year at Ysgol y Preseli, Crymych.
As an oratorio and concert artist she has performed in many notable venues and as a guest artist with several Male Voice Choirs. A personal highlight for her was being asked to perform at a reception for the Welsh Rugby Team to celebrate their success and with Paul Potts in a Charity Concert in aid of the Philippines disaster. She has performed in various operas and also in China as part of a Welsh Government Scheme. She was also a successful winner at the National Eisteddfod in Môn this year and continues with her studies on the Opera Course at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama.
Owain Rowlands is 17 and is the Head Boy at Ysgol Bro Dinefwr. He has recently passed his Grade 8 examination in piano playing. He took second prize in the under-19s Boys Solo Competition and was also placed second in the Folk Dancing Group from Adran Penrhyd at the Urdd National Eisteddfod at Bridgend this year. He performed in one of the main parts of the show ‘Cats’,as Rumtumtugger, in the school’s production. Owain is also a member of the National Youth Choir of Wales.
Côr Meibion Dinefwr chairman D Wyn Williams said that he was looking forward to a first class evening at Capel Newydd. Tickets are £8, with proceeds going to choir funds.
Looking ahead to 2018, tickets are now available for a major concert to be staged at Ffwrnes Theatre, Llanelli on Saturday, May 19, 2018 (7pm).
An array of stars will perform a very special evening of song in celebration of Llanelli Rotary Club marking its landmark Centenary Year.
Shan Cothi, one of the country’s most popular sopranos, will be sharing the stage with two great Welsh international choral ambassadors - Cor Meibion Llanelli, under the baton of conductor D Eifion Thomas, and the Hywel Girls’ Choir and Hywel Boy Singers, under the baton of conductor John Hywel Williams.
Joining them will be the delightful sounds of Cor Ysgol Goffa, an ensemble from Ysgol Y Strade under the baton of Catrin Hughes and the Lewis- Meredith Sisters - Calley, Sarah and Steffi.
The event has two aims –

To raise funds for the Green Light Postrate Cancer Machine at Prince Philip Hospital.

Côr Meibion Llanelli had a busy weekend with their annual concert at Ffwrnes Theatre and a performance in front of former US Presidential candidate Hillary Clinton at Swansea University.
The choir will perform at the Festival of Light, in aid of the Ty Bryngwyn Hospice Appeal, at the St Elli shopping centre on Monday, November 13.
The choir’s Christmas concert will be on Saturday, December 16, at Ffwrnes Theatre.
The young choristers of Llanelli’s Hywel Girls’ Choir and Hywel Boy Singers and their boutique chorale Angelicus Celtis, have a busy end-of-year coming up.
Forthcoming performances include St. Mary’s Church Swansea (30 November), a Christmas Fantasia with the British Sinfonietta at Y Ffwrnes (2 December), The Great Festival of Christmas at Swansea’s Brangwyn Hall (10 December) and a Christmas performance at Covent Garden.
2018 promises to be an exciting year for the choir as the Hywel Choir celebrates its 70th anniversary and a unique and prestigious Magic of Music Concert Ball will be held at Y Ffwrnes on Saturday 7 April 2018, where, in addition to enjoying a magical performance of the Hywel Choirs with a symphony orchestra, audiences will also have the unique opportunity to dance the night away to the sensational accompaniment of the symphony orchestra.
