Afternoon tea at health board will promote nutrition

Image
Hywel Dda University Health Board will be taking part in a worldwide afternoon tea to promote nutrition. The afternoon tea is part of a National ‘Nutrition and Hydration Week’ and is helping to highlight the work university health board staff do every day in helping to improve nutritional intake. Many patients in hospital have a poor appetite because of their illness so making sure all foods and drinks are as nourishing as possible helps patients to meet their nutritional needs. The afternoon teas and related activities such as cake baking competitions will mainly be on the afternoon of Wednesday 19th March and will be hosted by a number of wards and departments across the University Health Board. Karen Thomas, Joint Head of Dietetics, said: “The activities will be a chance for patients and their visitors to be made aware of how important it is to eat well when in hospital and also to provide further awareness and information for all staff. “We are incrementally introducing the new A

Dining room at Withybush turned into a ‘Brassiere’ for charity!

The dining room at Withybush Hospital in Haverfordwest, Pembrokeshire, has turned into a ‘Brassiere’ as people are being asked to donate their old bras for charity. An Against Breast Cancer bra bank has been placed in the dining room to help raise vital funds for research as being environmentally friendly and supporting the economy of developing countries. People can bring their second hand bras into the bank and they are then packed up and shipped out to West Africa where traders support their families selling textiles locally at village markets. A donation to Against Breast Cancer’s research is made by their recycling partner and is based on the weight of the bank so more bras mean more funds. The dining room at Withybush Hospital is open as for breakfast from 8.15am-10.30am, lunch from 12noon-2pm and supper from 6pm-7.30pm. It can be found on lower ground floor and provides eat in or takeaway and runs special menu days. Tea\Coffee\Food Vending Facilities are available 24 hours.

Hywel Dda University Health Board is setting up a clinical project board to look at a report regarding cardiology. Medical Director Dr Sue Fish said: “Our patients deserve the best possible care and we would like to reassure patients we take the issues raised in the report very seriously. “The review did not look at any specific issues relating to individual patients and has not identified any parts of the service that are currently unsafe. “However, it did make a number of recommendations advising us on how they believe we should configure cardiology services to improve the care of patients across the university health board. “We will have to consider the recommendations very seriously before reaching a decision on how we implement them. “A number of the issues identified in t

They decked the reception areas out with daffodils and Welsh flags and laid on Welsh Cakes for customers. “It was a splendid effort by all concerned,” said Red Kite Law partner David Sangster. “The staff really got into the spirit of St David’s Day and in doing so raised a very commendable sum for the Marie Curie cancer charity. “We topped up the contributions from staff with a donation from the Red Kite Law charity committee, raising a grand total of £318.68. Obviously, there is a very big ‘diolch yn fawr’ to staff for their efforts.” Photo: Staff at Red Kite Law raising money for the Marie Curie cancer charity on St David’s Day.
